It has been a bit of a year to say the last! Many people have found themselves out of work, when previously, they had what might be considered “steady” jobs. Traditional jobs are becoming more scarce, and with greater competition to fill the fewer positions. The challenge now for a lot of people, is how to earn money online in the UK, to either replace their lost income, or start a side hustle to hedge against future uncertainty, thereby building a better tomorrow for themselves, starting today.
There is an increasing need to discover an alternative way to generate income, and preferably, passive income. In this article, I hope to identify some possible solutions to this problem and help you create a route to a better life.

In this case, what is revealed in the graph below, is an absolutely staggering, sudden increase in unemployment!
So much so, that at present levels, the number of people claiming benefits (according to the Office for National Statistics) is now 62.7% higher than in the days and months after the banking crisis of 2008. An unknown proportion of this increase will be due to temporary furlough payments. It is also certain that many companies are going through redundancies, and trimming their workforce to become lean. They are positioning themselves to have best chance of riding out the economic storm.
What is concealed, is the devastation, misery, and individual struggles that can occur, when lives are turned upside-down, through no fault of their own.
When I saw this chart, it really brought into sharp focus, the reality of the situation regarding future employment potential.

If you are a certain age, that one may have got you smiling! (Millennials, ask Google)
There are many opportunities out there, but one issue is to identify the legitimate ones from the scams. Many people are promoting what seems to be “too good to be true”.
For example – **How To Make £4,000/Month Online Correcting Errors** or **£5,000/Day working only 30 minutes**.
Sounds great, but how realistic is it for the average person? And are these claims even real?
Proper, legitimate jobs, take a lot of work, but can pay off very well in the long run. If you have an opportunity which creates passive income, then you are leveraging your time now, and freeing up your time in the future.
Some online businesses will cost a lot of money to get started and others will be mainly free, at least to begin with. Whether you are still fully employed working 40 or 50 hours per week, or you want to start a side hustle, which may take up 4 to 10 hours a week, there are all sorts of businesses out there which could fulfill your requirements. Things like blogging, Pinterest, drop shipping, affiliate marketing, creating e-books, Youtubing, podcasting, and creating courses online for platforms like Udemy, Skillshare, Teachable, to name but a few. Any one of these could be your key to a better future!

Opportunities Galore!
One of the key things you may need to do is up-skill, and learn something new to give yourself the best chance of being successful in the future. (These can also be done through the opportunities highlighted in last paragraph). Not everything will work straight away, and you will need to have patience, persistence, and belief that the given system will work. From the opportunities you look at, you’ll need to see testimonials to see they are genuine and legitimate. Always do your research thoroughly.
The ideal situation maybe to be able to work from home, or a coffee shop, or anywhere without restriction. Basically, having the time and freedom to work a life you have always dreamed of, and can design for yourself!
Remote working is becoming more popular, especially with 2020/21 and all that involves! For some, it is a case of being forced to work from home by their employers, due to the ensuing situation, whilst for others, it can be a choice. For those that don’t want to start a business, there is always the option of freelancing with companies like People Per Hour, Fiverr , or Upwork. This involves promoting your skills and services, by pitching to people/companies on the platforms who are seeking to fulfill specific tasks or projects, and will have uploaded a brief, outlining their requirements to these sites. This can provide a more flexible lifestyle, although it may be a little uncertain, due to the irregular contracts.
You can never make more time!
If, however, you only want a little top-up for the occasional treat, you could look at task related things like filling out surveys, secret shopper, product testing, 20COGS etc. But to be honest, is there really a future in just trading time for Pounds Sterling? Surely it is far better to invest your efforts into something that you have control over, and that can scale over time, creating freedom for yourself in the future!

What Is Your Why?
What is your why?
Do you know what motivates you to want to work from home, online, or start an online business from home?
It is important to properly define your “why”. Not just “I want a big house with a swimming pool”: but more, I am very much a people person, and want big house with a swimming pool, so I can invite all my friends and family round for pool parties in the summer.
This brings the emotions of the purpose to life!
How will it feel to be surrounded by loved ones, seeing them all having a great time, sharing familiar stories of time well spent! Imagine what it is like to “be in that moment”!
Then, you have added a desire, and value to your “why”.
Starting With The End In Mind
Start with the end in mind, and focus on your goal, creating small steps that work towards that target.
Write your goals down, and pin them on the fridge, or stick them on your home office wall, so you can glance at them daily.
This will keep them fresh in your mind, and you may even find yourself doing things that subconsciously move you further towards achieving these goals, without even realizing!
